Printer won’t work at all
- old print jobs stuck in the print queue.
- poor connection with the computer.
- cartridge run out or dried up / blocked print head.
- software problems.
Remedies
- double click the printer icon from the Start menu or Control Panel. Delete any old print jobs found in the print queue.
- check connections between the printer and the computer. If it’s a parallel connection (large wide flat plugs), turn off the computer, remove and replug at both ends and restart the computer.
- with USB connections, pull the plugs out, leave a few seconds and replug.
- check the printer cartridge and run the print head cleaning software.
- check that you have removed the protective strip from a new cartridge.
- uninstall and reinstall the software.
Poor print quality
Possible causes
- dirty or dried up print heads.
- run out of ink / toner.
- poor quality compatible ink / cartridges.
Remedies
- run cleaning software and check ink level.
- ideally, use the genuine manufacturers cartridges.
Paper feed problems
Possible causes
- paper damp or sticking together.
- feed rollers dirty.
- paper path blocked.
Remedy
- keep paper dry and flat. Fan it out a bit before putting it into the printer.
- clean the rubber rollers in the printer with cleaning fluid such as alcohol or methylated spirit.
- check the paper path very carefully for small fragments of paper that may have become screwed up.
