Lots of emails are spam. Many contain infected attachments. Many are after your private details. Some take you where you shouldn’t want to go as they contain phishing links. Some examples of such emails are show in this blog entry.

The BBC report that the Police have issued a warning about the dangers of CryptoLocker that can infect a computer via email and then encrypt (scramble) your files. Another report says that the Swansea Police actually paid the ransom! There are steps you can take to protect yourself.

An email account was hacked and contacts started to receive messages about being mugged in the Pilipines. The Inbox and Contacts on webmail were cleared out and no further emails were received despite changing the password.

Scam email pretending to be from Microsoft that was after some private details. Don’t be taken in by it. Don’t click the “Verify Now” link.

If you are on BTinternet and are having problems downloading emails with Outlook or Outlook Express etc it is probably due to a large attachment. I have been told by BTinternet that there is a problem with attachments over 1000KB at the moment and all you can do is to log onto webmail instead.
