Lots of emails are spam. Many contain infected attachments. Many are after your private details. Some take you where you shouldn’t want to go as they contain phishing links. Some examples of such emails are show in this blog entry.

The BBC report that the Police have issued a warning about the dangers of CryptoLocker that can infect a computer via email and then encrypt (scramble) your files. Another report says that the Swansea Police actually paid the ransom! There are steps you can take to protect yourself.

The “Cheshire Police Ransonware Virus” completely locked a customers computer and demanded £100 to be unlocked. I managed to remove the infection successfully and restore the PC to good health. This could happen to anyone, but it helps to keep to PC up to date.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 comes top of a review of PC security programs. But there are arguments that the antivirus companies are too slow at responding to new threats and that our computers are left vulnerable. Furthermore, if antivirus programs are not doing an adequate job, why have one at all?

A PC was locked by a screen claiming that the computer had been used for illict purposes. A fine (or ransom) was demanded!
